In the hollow of the valley the Orbize meanders and, going up, streams flow from the hillsides. In Saint-Jean they supply the municipal swimming pool, open on summer days. Find the starting point It is located in the heart of the village, along the D 124, on the Place des Tilleuls, next to the fountain. From the information panel, take rue de la piscine and follow the "petit lavoir" signs on the right. Pass between the stone walls and along the stream to go up to the right, after crossing the bridge, towards the village. At (1) go down the tarred street to the left as far as the “little washhouse”. Follow the “Maison Rouge” signs along the stream. As you approach the meadows, you will have a nice view of the surrounding hills. At the end of the grassy path at (2), turn right; walk 100 m and arrive in front of a stone wall, turn left Then at (3) right to follow the river Orbize for a few meters and continue to the tarmac road that connects Saint-Jean-de-Vaux to Saint-Denis -de-Vaux. At (4), turn right to “La Maison Rouge” towards the village. Then go up immediately to the left, following the signs for “Les Chaumonts”. Continue on the grassy path, keeping to the right to walk along the field then the vines to the paved road. Behind you, Saint-Denis-de-Vaux, on the other side of the valley. At the road, continue straight. At the crossroads with a path on the right at (5) you can return directly to the village. Continue straight towards the “Pré au Moine” to reach the D124 which connects Saint-Jean-de-Vaux to Saint-Mard-de-Vaux. Carefully follow the D124 to the left to cross it towards the path that climbs to the right. Climb up to “Croix Beau”. It's time to take a break to enjoy the landscape of the valley and the vineyards of Saint-Jean-de-Vaux. Continue straight on the path overlooking the vineyards along the forest on your left to the paved road. At (6) continue the climb. Arrived at “Château Beau”, turn right in the direction of “Chemin de la Combe”. After a few meters, go right towards “Chemin de la Source”. Descend along the vines to reach the catchment of the municipal spring. At (7), go down to the left along the stream. Please note that this passage cannot be used by horses for safety reasons. Pass next to the “Grand Lavoir” where the water flows at a constant temperature of 18°C. Continue straight along the stream to the campsite. Go around the latter by turning left until you pass in front of its main entrance. Possibility of catering at the campsite's point of sale from May to September. Go right on the main road to reach your starting point Place des Tilleuls.
