InsideOutside is a book based on photographic correspondence about the five senses with a dozen prisoners around the world.
The book, published by Libel, will be presented by its two authors, photographer Bertrand Gaudillère and Clara Grisot, at a meeting on Wednesday 22 January at 6.45pm. It will be preceded by a reading and live music.

The premise is as follows: the prisoners share a common experience, regardless of where they are incarcerated, the length of their sentence, their gender, their age, the material conditions of their detention or the country in which they are held. It is the experience of the senses being altered by prolonged deprivation of liberty.
Using Bertrand Gaudillère's images, we asked a number of prisoners from different countries, walls and cultures to describe their perception of touch, sight, taste, smell and hearing. And, for good measure, time and space? The answers came from the Ukraine, Colombia, Japan, Italy, France, Switzerland, the United States, Guatemala and Argentina. The result is a book that combines narrative, graphic design, personal accounts, photography and information.

The project is the fruit of a collaboration between Prison Insider, a platform for information, comparison and testimony on prisons around the world, and the item collective.
The evening is organised by the Société des amis du musée Nicéphore Niépce, in partnership with l'Évadée.
